Invocation and Preparing Our Hearts for Worship

Litany: Temptations Are So Sneaky

L: Go on, the ads say. Give in to temptation.

C: Buy that luxury car, those expensive shoes. .....
L: Resist. Be strong. Be faithful.
All: It’s worth it. Amen.

Confession and Forgiveness

L: For the well-being of all God’s children, we confess our sins before God and one another.

L: Faithful Teacher,

C: As we move fluidly through a new year, we ask your forgiveness for those things that we have done and have failed to do that bring harm to you, others, or ourselves. Cleanse us from our sin and transform us by your forgiveness. Amen.

L: Our Lord Jesus walked on this earth to bring forgiveness and new life to all. In Jesus’ name, I proclaim to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins. Today you are made new by the abundant love of Jesus Christ, our Lord.

All: Amen.

Offering Prayer

C: You have promised to be faithful, O God, if we put our trust in you. Accept these gifts we now bring as a sign of our belief that you will provide for our every need. Make us generous with each other and forgiving of our own shortcomings, that we might truly be your servants in the world. Through Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

Prayers of the Church

L: We pray for the church, the world, and all those in need.
L: Sometimes we live as if we are slaves to our every whim and desire. Fortify us with the

example of Jesus who did not waver, even in the most trying of circumstances. Give us

strength where we are lacking, and forgiveness where we come up short. Merciful God,

C: Hear our prayer.
.....
L: We place all of these things into your hands, O God, not knowing exactly how they will

be accomplished, but trusting that you are merciful and wise. We pray in the name of

Jesus our Lord.

All: Amen.

Communion Invitation and Distribution

C: It is true that we do not live by bread alone. Save us from those things which would take us off course and turn our eyes from you. Give us the bread which truly satisfies: the body and blood of your son. Feed us here today, and continue to provide all that we need, exactly when we need it. Come, eat, and be made whole!
